Sparks Fly Upward is a place where I write thoughts, opinions and musings on topics including (but not limited to!) politics in Australia and elsewhere, theology and Christianity, and lots of other stuff I've been doing/seeing/thinking about that might not fit into a category. It's as much a place for me to crystallise and refine ideas as it is a platform for the public expression of those ideas, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
There are a couple of relevant bits in the name: I'm a bit of a Winter Christian so verses like Job 5:6-7 appeal to my experience of faith much more than your standard doxologies and exhortations. I also think it's an accurate summation of the human condition; like sparks we're fleeting, ephemeral creatures, and we can no more avoid troubles in our short lives than those sparks can avoid flying upwards. Unlike sparks, however, we've been given the opportunity to recognise our troubles and know that one day, when the Light that gives us birth brings us back to Himself, all will be well forever.

I do like Lorikeets best of all the parrots. They are just so colourful!
